============================================================
It's winter and your favorite mountain biking trails are blanketed in snow. You don't have money to fly West but you do have money to drive West…at least to West Virginia.
Slopeside in your condo with a fire blazing you watch the blobs move closer to you on the weather channel radar screen. Your thighs ache, your knees are sore and your calves are jello…. ahhh…. you feel good. Of course you have just finished snowboarding and are sipping on your first margarita.
Snow has been falling recently and powder runs can be found. High-speed carving can be had on groomed downhills. Midweek will mean no lift lines and lower prices, for everything. Important decisions will include what time to wake up, what wax to use and where to go for dinner. You don't worry about perfecting your "INDY GRAB" (see glossary).
Cross country trails can also be enjoyable. Pack your snowboard and strap on snowshoes. Find rarely used steep/high back country trails. Check out the scenery and savor the silence. Reach your apex. Rest amongst the spruces. Now for the ride down…….
Warm, dry weather for mountain biking is months away but for now, this is as good as it gets.
