Cord visited his good friend Pluggo in early June for some sea kayaking near Va. Beach, Va.. Sea kayaks were rented and towed to camp along North Landing River, a part of the intracoastal waterway at the Va./N.C. line. Three days of kayaking were enjoyed with paddling on North Landing River, Currituck Sound and Back Bay. A paddle on the ocean was nixed because of wind, choppy waves, cold water/air temperature and Pluggo's lack of warm clothing. Pluggo is a great chef but lacks proper attire at times (see MENU).
Pluggo enjoyed seeing all the wildlife, especially the blue heron that displayed it's fishing and eating talents from about 30 feet away (and Pluggo was using binoculars!).
Navigating your own course, exploring the backwaters and getting close to wildlife is why sea kayaking is a fun and growing sport. The upper body workout compliments mountain biking perfectly. Glide on the water, ride the waves, walk a sand bar, go swimming - summer is here.
