It seems when the winter approachs, the buffalo seek grazing grounds at a lower altitude than the park, and they migrate down into areas where cattle is being raised. Some of these areas are on the open range, and the buffalo's are being shot to prevent them from infecting cattle with a disease - Brucellosis.
There are other techniques to help with this problem, instead of just killing the buffalo our of fear and the possibility of infection for their cattle. The National Wildlife Federation is taking an active part to help in this cause, as well as webmountainbike.com through it's donations. Keep the bufflao's alive!!!
It is time for America to quit killing buffalo. The massacre of 50 million buffalo during the 19th century, an incredible devastation, destroyed an entire ecosystem (the Great Plains), and had devastating impacts on Native nations. Today, the Yellowstone buffalo herd is a herd of survivors of the great massacre, and in the past decade over 2,000 of these animals have been killed by the state of Montana. The buffalo's crime: crossing over an invisible border and leaving Yellowstone National Park
