Here's how to do it, step by step:

*Remove bar ends and grips. Use a 5mm Allen wrench for the bar ends, and peel back the grips or cut them off. Try to get soapy water, or alcohol, under them to help get them off.
*Squirt water or alcohol inside the grips when replacing.
*Remove the old shifter using a 3mm Allen wrench, and replace the brake lever if you had to remove it to get the old shifter off.
*Loosen and move the brake lever inward a bit to make room for the new shifter.
*Select the Right or Left shifter and slide on the handlebar with cable facing in.
*Slide the plastic washer over the handlebar where the shifter meets the grip.
*Replace the grip and the bar end.
*Put the Grip shift up against the grip with the washer between, and rotate the shifter so the barrel does not interfere with the brake lever.
*Tighten the grip shift with a 3mm Allen wrench, and make sure it is not on a curved part of the handlebar.
*Position the brake lever where you want and re-tighten it.
*Re-install or replace cable and tighten it.
