SEDONA

MaNiMaL, Trout, and Brozone rode the trails of Sedona, Arizona on 5/20/05 - 5/25/05. It was a webmountainbike "get together and ride vacation" for some of the wrecking crew...needless to say, it was some of the best riding we have ever done on the planet. The trails of Sedona and Oak Creek are ideally suited for mountain biking - technical, awesome views, rolling terrain, spectacular plants and animals, and even a few "spiritual vortices" where the red rock formations are the most impressive and spiritual energy abounds. The trails are mainly red dirt, fairly loose twisting singletrack except where they are crossed and punctuated by slickrock and dry creeks and washes. The trails are almost 100% ridable with few areas to dismount - and no long extended climbs - but a few nice staircases and switchbacks on the few steep sections.

Incredible riding and amazing views around every corner await you, and the blooming plants and cactus are scenic and fragrant. You may see desert quail, road runners, lizards, and other wildlife but few other riders. It is like riding a roller coaster that never ends!! Some areas do have a bit of exposure, so keep this in mind and use discretion!!

Some of the finest trails include Bell Rock, Mystic, Broken Arrow, Huckaby, Little Horse, Templeton, Jim Thompson, and Soldiers Pass - and there are a whole bunch of others as well. Don't forget to stop at Buddha Beach for a swim in the cool, clear waters of Oak Creek on a hot day which is reached by the Templeton trail near Cathedral Rocks. Be sure to purchase a red rock parking pass at minimal cost as this allows parking at the trailheads and helps to support the trails and preserve the ecology of the area. There are some wilderness areas closed to bikes, but you can leave your bike at the entrance to these areas and do some excellent hiking if you desire - but in general, there are plenty of places to ride even with these wilderness areas.

Anyone who is a skilled rider and has not ridden in Sedona will certainly find himself in mountain biking heaven and will consider him/herself lucky enough to have found true PARADISE....

There are enough trails to ride for at least a week, lots of great restaurants, and unbelievable views from almost anywhere in this town. Do yourself a favor and make it a point to visit here if at all possible for a unique riding adventure. You can bring your own bike, or rent one from any of the 4 shops in town (Absolute Bikes - Sedona Sports - Bike and Bean - and MTB Heaven).
