Riding on ice is another great aspect of this sport that allows riders to use their skills in the winter months, and stay in shape as well as have some fun!! Dress warmly but allow for excess body heat to build up and maintain proper venting of your body. Consider wearing knee pads/ elbow pads if you wish, but you will certainly need gloves and a helmet. We strongly recommend a nice studded bike tire designed for snow and ice. Nokian has quite a nice line of these tires, and they are a must for riding on frozen lakes and other areas with ice. Balance is critical, and don't make any fast moves. Shift your weight gently, slowly, and in small increments or you may go down unexpectedly. Be aware of thin ice or areas which are not frozen solidly and stay clear of them. Ride with a partner and get the weather forecast before you leave. All in all, ice riding can be fun and a unique experience you should not pass up if you have the oppurtunity to try it!!
