*I have question about quick releases.
I want to know how to operate them so that they completely safe and won't damage my bike, or injure me.
Could you explain fully how they work and how to operate them.
Thanxs alot Mark Salisbury......
The quick release is a clamping device operated by hand only to hold a wheel or a seatpost. Also called the binder bolt. It can be operated with the flick of your wrist by opening or closing the lever, and is used to raise or lower the seatpost or remove the front or rear tire from the bike. If the lever is rotated clockwise this will make it tighter when you close the lever. If it is too tight, it may be difficult to close the lever fully, just open the lever and rotate a little counterclockwise to loosen and then reclose it. If you seatpost is too loose, release the lever, rotate it clockwise a bit and retighten. You will know the seatpost is too loose because it will spin or shorten when you ride.
The quick release for the wheels operate in the same fashion, but here you must insure that the wheel is seated all the way into the dropouts before closing the quick release. Make sure it is tight and the wheel spins O.K. It is a good idea to also point the lever towards the rear of the bike so that it is less likely to catch on brush, limbs, etc.. while you are riding.
