I live in Mendoza and though I am 52 years old ride about 8000 Km/year.
Mendoza is on the west side of Argentina near the Andes mountain, and about
150 Km from the Aconcagua. Mountain
Mountain biking is very popular for obvious reasons and is practiced at high
altitudes. The landscape is wild and great.
Regarding biking, crossing the Andes and going into Santiago Chile is a
common and challenging experience here. Many Europeans come to Mendoza and
cross to Santiago, Chile in the spring, summer and fall (right now is ending
summer). The weather is great with sunny days. The road is paved all the way
to Santiago. If you come I can help you and/or your friends with the
logistic, like hotel reservations, maps, bike servicing, own experience and
any thing you might need to know. Please feel free to contact me. I have
already help one guy from Germany and another from Austria that I met in the
road biking. Things are a lot easy if I can advise you in advance.
There are
also great places to ride near the city of Mendoza. This is a wine country
and also apples. peaches, appricots, pears, etc are grown. You can also pick
figs at the side of the road if you come in the proper season.
Getting into Mendoza is very easy. American has daily flights from Dallas
and Miami that get into Santiago, Chile and connect to Mendoza which is only
a 35 minutes flight over the Andes. If the sky is clear the view of the
Aconcagua (near 23 000 feet above sea level) and some other volcanos is
great.
Thanks again for the opportunity and congratulation for your site. It is
very nice and interesting, but above all, helpful.
AHH กกกก, thanks for the gift won in the other contest (the one about the
number of helmets in the picture)
